Since I started this site, I haven’t actually done a hike. I did one bike tour (that I still have to finish editing the photos for and do a writeup on) but haven’t done any real hiking.
I have been thinking a lot about hiking lately. Like most of my thoughts, it just pops in there and doesn’t go away. So I started taking walks on my lunch break in Valley Forge on some of the hiking trails and I have been eying up a ten mile stretch of the Green Ribbon Trail near where I live. It’s a start, but the cogs are spinning and I want to do a thru hike.
Now this isn’t going to be a six month AT thru hike. Now don’t get me wrong I want to do an AT hike, but I have a wife, kid, job and unfortunately bills; so an AT thru hike is a way aways.
So what thru hike are you talkin’ ’bout Willis? Well I am glad you asked. I want to spend a week and hike the entire Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail or LHHT from end to end. All 70 miles of it from Johnstown to Ohiopyle (that’s in Pennsylvania for those of you not familiar with the trail or those towns).
Planning has just begun on this trip. I don’t have a set time of year (most likely spring or summer) yet and I still need to get the Guide Book before any serious planning can commence. But I will let you all know whats going on here on this blog as the plan comes together. I love it when a plan comes together. I would love to shoot video when hiking too and produce a vlog based on my hiking adventure.
On the subject of hiking, I am also contemplating attempting to do the entire Hose-Shoe Trail from Valley Forge to the AT. My ultimate goal is to section hike the trail in five separate hikes and to complete them all in one year. I’m not sure if that year will be 2015 or not, but I wouldn’t rule that out. Imagine a six month period with a hike a month; 2015 could be my year of hiking. But we will see how things work out.
For now that’s what has been ticking in my brain.
